This past weekend for only the second time, I participated in the annual Miami-Key Largo Regatta. The one-way race started at 8:00 am Saturday morning with 5-10 knot winds and we finished at 4:30 pm which, while not a great time, was certainly respectable.
The day was scorching hot which made the wind a welcome companion although, at times, an aggressive and disagreeable one. One jib was ripped off completely and the old, colorful spinnaker was torn to shreds on the return trip.
I brought my camera and took as many photos as I could. It had been a while since I crewed a race this challenging and a good time was had by all.
